Students receive instruction from experienced computer experts in each Computer Technology course at Vatterott College - Sunset Hills. The Diploma program in Computer Technology provides courses in Windows, computer user support, software support, peripheral repair, operating system configuration and local area networks (LANs).  Students will gain experience with & Windows XP, Windows 7 and command line interfaces. Course work includes installation and configuration, directory structures, hardware fundamentals, device configurations, computer problem solving, application installation and security, troubleshooting, hardware repair and upgrades, printing, administration, file sharing, basic protocols, and much more.  Students also receive hands-on computer technology training through labs and technical instruction.  In addition to an Associate of Occupational Studies degree, these networking courses prepare students for the following certifications:
  • Microsoft #70-680 Windows 7, Configuring
  • CompTIA Network+
  • CompTIA A+
The objective of the Computer Technology courses is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in the information systems industry. The program consists of 60 weeks and 72 quarter credit hours of computer technology courses and associated lab work.

Facilities
Computer technology courses in Sunset Hills provide the software and hardware meant to help students learn efficiently.  Computer labs are open additional hours to provide work-study time outside of classes.  Enrollment provides each student online resources such as library services, a student portal, email and online companion courses.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“Employment of computer support specialists is expected to increase by 14 percent from 2008 to 2018, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Demand for these workers will result as organizations and individuals continue to adopt the newest forms of technology. As technology becomes more complex and widespread, support specialists will be needed in greater numbers to resolve the technical problems that arise. Businesses, especially, will demand greater levels of support, as information technology has become essential in the business environment.”
