Students receive instruction from experienced experts in each Dental Assistant course at Vatterott College - Springfield. The Diploma in Dental Assisting provides courses such as fundamental nutrition, anatomy, and physiology.  Classes progress to more advanced topics including microbiology, dental anatomy, oral pathology, and much more.  Students learn real-world applications of dental assistance through labs, technical hands-on training, and a comprehensive externship. Throughout the course, students will take field trips and also be exposed to a series of guest speakers. Additionally, graduates of the Dental Assistant program are eligible for registry with the American Medical Technologist (AMT) as a Registered Dental Assistant after passing the AMT examination for dental assistants.

The objective of this program is designed to give students the skills needed to meet the employment needs of the modern dental office and will prepare the graduate with theory and working knowledge of dental assisting. Graduates from the Dental Assistant program will obtain the skills to acquire entry-level employment as a dental assistant.  The Dental Assistant program in Springfield is 40 weeks in length and 67 quarter credit hours of theory and associated training labs.

Facilities
The Dental Assistant program at Vatterott College - Springfield provides computer labs equipped with software and hardware meant to help students learn efficiently.  Labs are open additional hours to provide work-study time outside of classes.  Enrollment provides each student online resources such as library services, a student portal, email and online companion courses.
Career Outlook
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“Dental Assistant employment is expected to increase much faster than average; job prospects are expected to be excellent. Dental assistants are expected to be among the fastest growing occupations over the 2008–18 projection period. As dentists' workloads increase, they are expected to hire more assistants to perform routine tasks, so that they may devote their own time to more complex procedures.”
