The Cosmetology program in Berkeley offers students experienced instruction, as well as hands-on cosmetology training.  Students learn haircutting and shaping, coloring, facials, manicuring, pedicuring, as well as state cosmetology law and business management.  The program will teach students about professional image, communication, clinical procedures, hair and skin chemistry, basics in electricity, sanitation laws, professional ethics, salon management and much more.  These Cosmetology courses also will prepare students for state exams and licensing. Graduates who pass these exams are certified to perform standard cosmetology services in beauty salons. 

The objective of this program is to prepare the graduate with cosmetology skills to work in.  Graduates of this program should possess the skills to pass state exams and work in the beauty and appearance industries.  The Cosmetology Diploma student will earn 1,500 clock hours over a 50 or 60 week program.

  • Accounting: Mon & Tue 8am to 6pm, Wed & Thu 8am to 8pm
  • LRC: Mon 8am to 6pm, Tue-Thu 8am to 8pm, Fri 8am to 5pm
  • Retention:Mon 8am- 6pm, Tue 8am to 8pm, Wed 8am to 8pm, Thu 8am to 6pm, Fri 8am to 5pm
  • Career Services: Mon-Thu 8am to 8pm, Fri 8am to 6pm
  • Registrar: Mon & Fri 8am to 6pm, Tues, Wed & Thurs 8am-8pm
  • Saturday Hours (9am to 5pm)

Facilities
The Cosmetology school in Berkeley is designed to simulate a real salon environment.  Students learn in a salon setting in order to properly train for future employment.  Library and computer labs are open additional hours to provide work-study time outside of classes.  Also, enrollment provides each student online resources such as library services, a student portal, email and online companion courses.

According to the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics:

“Job opportunities generally should be good, particularly for licensed personal appearance workers seeking entry-level positions.  Opportunities will generally be best for those licensed to provide a broad range of services and with previous experience.”
